Monmouth Mayor's Report
March 2, 1999
This month, I promise that the Mayor's Report will be unusually brief.
First, it appears that the next several weeks will be interesting times to live in.
Our community will be affected by the outcome of the ongoing school board/teacher impasse as passions long hid rise to the surface.
I believe that we will be impacted for the good or for the ill - and I know that all of us here hope that it turns out for the good.
I mention this because there are good people on all sides of the issues and hopefully after whatever happens, we will be able to mend what may be torn.
Secondly, I want to take this opportunity to publicly praise the Planning Commission.
As a group, you found consensus on an issue where other groups, less comfortable with their role and their peers, might not have found.
In a difficult and highly charged environment, the commission acted with unified reason.
They did a great job and I just wanted to share that with you.
Third, I want to thank everyone that found time in his or her hectic schedule to attend the meeting held Monday the 22nd.
Hopefully, it will be the beginning of some win/win long-term solutions.
Finally, I want to thank Jeff Hecksel and the staff for making this past month even better than the prior one - I appreciate it.
