Leadership crucial during times of change

Leadership counts — especially in rough waters.
As a veteran, I know the frustration associated with crisis. When people are hurting, when people are scared, we forget things — the fog clouds even the most basic truths.
The past two years have been a painful period of a global economic realignment. We want it to pass quickly and without significant damage. All we know for certain is that we will emerge from this typhoon a different Oregon.
We cannot, will not, reach a better Oregon by happenstance. Our ship of state requires competent, proven leadership; ships do not keep themselves from foundering in fast water or upon the shoals.
This election we are blessed with three exceptionally well-prepared leaders: Ron Wyden, John Kitzhaber and Kurt Schrader. This team (Wyden, Kitzhaber and Schrader) understands our circumstances; they will continue to help us find thoughtful solutions to complex problems.
Please do not forget the basics, even during the super-heated excitement and hullabaloo of exaggerated campaign rhetoric and partisan warfare. Look at our situation and choose the crew you trust most to keep us off the rocks.
