Editorial board is misguided in its Winters support
Statesman Journal
October 28, 2006
I am disappointed in the Statesman Journal's Oct. 7 endorsement of the incumbent in Senate District 10, Jackie Winters, over Paul Evans.
An incumbent has a responsibility to allow voters to question her record and to inform voters of her positions. She has failed in this democratic task.
Other incumbents saw fit to attend and defend their record at debates and respond to questions from their challengers. That's the job of the incumbent during an election. Why is she embarrassed about her record?
So go ahead, Statesman Journal, make an endorsement of a bad incumbent; help keep Oregon where it is instead of where it could and should be.
Do we need more of the same politics or should we elect Paul Evans, someone with ideas -- someone who will give you all he's got and not expect an automatic re-election, but will defend his record against anyone.
