Evans would break legislative gridlock
Statesman Journal
October 20, 2006
The Statesman Journal's Oct. 7 endorsement of Jackie Winters over Paul Evans was a complete shock when one remembers the gridlock of the 2005 legislative session. The memory of the barriers set up by the Republican caucuses to keep bills from being heard in committee, much less discussed on the House and Senate floors, should not be forgotten.
Sen. Winters voted for every concession promoted by the beer and wine industries. Sen. Winters voted against education measures and assistance to the poor, handicapped and elderly. She has recently sent a mailing talking about her plan for public education, but her voting record shows her disregard for education for Oregon children and higher education, too. Actions speak louder than words in this instance.
We need new ideas and a person who will work for all the people of our state, not just the rich and powerful. Vote for Paul Evans for state senator and break the gridlock.
