Farewell, Godspeed Mayor Evans

As Monmouth Mayor Paul Evans ships out for active duty with the Air Force, we want him to know our prayers and best wishes go with him.

Evans sometimes comes across as schmaltzy in a way that cynics could misread as political snake oil. However, once you get to know the man, you realize that schmaltz is 100 percent pure.

It comes from a profound idealism and a deep, abiding faith in the better angels of the American nature. If all that seems a bit corny, it's more a reflection on the rest of us than it is on Paul Evans.

We will miss him in local affairs. However, we are proud to have this native son representing our community in the armed forces.
